Psychopath

Depression, early detection and diagnosis

Let’s look into the subject of depression in Nepali scenario in detail. Though it has become a pressing issue in urban Nepal, it is widely suppressed and frowned upon. It is time for this subject to be widely discussed and brought to the forefront so that we can find ways to address it cause.

First of all, we need to accept that it is normal for an individual to feel misunderstood and abandoned by the society at large. The atmosphere in which kids are raised, the kind of education they receive, the expectations they have to abide by, are not easy by any stretch of imagination. If your family is not well off, urban life is disturbingly difficult in major Nepali city like Kathmandu.  You always find yourself lacking in front of the kids from richer families. They invariably go to better schools, get better opportunities to refine their skills, become healthier and socially amiable.

It is to be pointed out here that though money plays a significant role in helping kids development themselves into promising adults, it is not the only factor that determines their success. There are plenty of rich Nepali kids who have had psychological issues leading to drug abuse and mental breakdown and sometimes untimely death.

If your family is not very well off and your parents are always struggling to make ends meet, do not be troubled and consider yourself unlucky as you see your friends and neighbours enjoy the luxuries of life. Money is the means to buy and sell; it is not what makes a person happy and desirous. What makes a person charming and attractive cannot be bought with cash. Always remember we are human beings and we possess qualities that make us human. Kindness, cooperation, love, a caring attitude, fortitude are some of the qualities that we all inherently possess in abundance. It is by employing these qualities in our daily lives that we secure our space in society as individuals who are liked and loved.

As humans we all desire to be loved and appreciated. Though most men shun from admitting this, both men and women have deep longing to be desirable. This is a good thing because it helps us to try harder and develop the qualities in us that make us special in our own ways.

Mental breakdown takes place when an individual cannot create this unique image of himself/herself. It is very important that an individual feels like S/he is really an awesome person who is worthy of all good things in life. When the feeling that says, “I am awesome no matter what” starts to dry up, that’s when all the negative emotions start to swell our minds and slowly take us down the path of self hatred and self pity. In time, these unchecked feelings start to make a person depressed with a voice inside getting louder and louder shouting out “I’m not good enough.”

If right now in your life, you are feeling exactly like this, remember it’s your own mind that got you here. You spent a lot of time listening to negative impulses of your mind and overtime you forgot that once you were happy and healthy as anybody around you. Now you have work to do. The work is to try and undo your perverse thought pattern. Research has successfully proven that our brain works just like a programming language. Whatever you feed will overtime become a habit and then a pattern. You can make your brain to believe anything you desire, all you need is a conscious routine.
It is like teaching a puppy to do a Namaste pose. As you keep showing the puppy over and again, it will eventually pick of the habit.

Mental breakdown at the early stage and in most of the cases even in advanced stage is self curable. Yes, it is possible. You know why it is possible? Because, it is your own doing. All you need to do is press the ‘undo’ button of your brain cells. It may sound insensitive to say this but this is the truth. No one is born depressed, we raise ourselves to reach this ‘depressed state’ we are in. No one tells us to go get depressed, you who has arrived on your own. Yes, the situation does play its part in turning an individual into a psychopath but if you carefully analyse your past, somewhere you let go the feeling of self-worth to reach the state of depression.

Self-worth doesn’t come overnight and there is work to be done. The good thing is this work is totally in your domain. You are the creator and destroyer of your mind. Train you mind. Tell your mind that you are good and unknowingly you fed yourself garbage and negativity to reach you present crisis state. Whenever a negative emotion comes to your mind, stop the mind’s chatter, identity the culprit and don’t entertain thoughts that don’t help you feel better. If the thoughts are incessant, talk to you dear ones, share what you are going through. Sharing your emotions is very helpful. If you’re feeling stranded you can also write to us or even visit us. Though we are an event management firm, we are deeply concerned about the mental breakdown our urban population is going through.

We are not here to provide the so-called “Professional counselling”, what we would like to do is talk to you and see what practical tips we can muster.

Alright back to the topic, mental breakdown or psychopathy is not a medical condition. It is the result of the years of abuse the mind has suffered. Our minds can be our best friends or our worst enemies.

In the case of depression, what has been happening is, instead of using the mind to benefit, it’s been used to harm. Reverse the gear and your engine will start to propel you in the direction you want it to go.

Remember always, the choice is yours. You can choose to suffer or you can choose to be happy. Of course there is work involved. But is it good work and you are totally worth this good work.
